Two female suicide bombers have
been consumed in the act as they were blown up by the improvised explosive
devices (IEDs) they were carrying while on a deadly mission in a Borno village.
The two suicide bombers, according
to local sources, were blown up, Sunday afternoon, at Auno village in Konduga
local government area, a distance of about 15 kilometres from Maiduguri, the
Borno state capital, while seven other people sustained varying degrees of
injuries.
Local sources in the area said,
they suspected that the two amazons of death were on their way to the Maiduguri
Monday Market for another deadly mission before nemesis caught up with them at
Auno where they were waiting for commercial vehicle to convey them.
Modu Bukar, a resident of Auno,
while recounting the incident, said the explosion which rocked the area at
about 2pm shattered the bodies of the suicide bombers, while the other seven
victims were rushed to the Maiduguri General Hospital for treatment by
sympathisers.
According to Bukar, “the suicide
bombers were said to have been brought from Damaturu by one suspected Boko
Haram terrorist who dropped them in Jajana and told them to take a bus to the next
town. On reaching Auno, they thought it was Maiduguri and they started asking
about Maiduguri Monday Market.
“We were told that their master
dropped them in Jakana because he knows that it will be very difficult for them
to beat security checkpoint and get entrance into Maiduguri town.”
His account was corroborated by a
taxi driver, Mallam Mohammdu Abor, who said he was in Auno Sunday afternoon and
saw mangled bodies of the two suicide bombers by the roadside.
Spokesman of youth vigilante
group in the state, Barrister Jibrin Gunda, confirmed the incident, saying his
men had intensified their stop and search mission thus making it difficult for
suicide bombers to enter Maiduguri without being detected
