When the story of a Detroit man who
had been walking 21 miles to work, every day, went viral, it inspired a tidal
wave of kindness.
James Robertson, 56, asked the
Detroit Police to help him move to a new neighborhood. He had been walking to
work every day, over an enormous distance of 21 miles. He started to feel
unsafe after hearing reports on the news about an 86-year-old man who had been
murdered in the area after winning $20,000 in the lottery. “We had a meeting
with him [and] he expressed interest that he did not feel safe,” confirmed
Detroit Police Capt. Aric Tosqui.
When the Internet caught wind of the
story, donations started pouring in, including $350,000 and a new car!
Robertson, who works as an injection
molder at Schain Mold & Engineering, is not yet sure what he will do with
the new jackpot of his own. “Really, if anybody would have told me that this
was going to blow up like this, I’d say you were crazy,” Robertson said in an
interview with WWJ’s Charlie Langton
