The Police have arraigned a couple identified as Jerry Okoh Oboh and
Eucheria Chukwuma before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos
for allegedly beating and stabbing a 10-year-old girl, Chidinma, in her
private part with a broken bottle.
The couple and Chidinma’s family are said to be residents of Joshua Street, Agbabiaka, in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos.
It
was gathered that the couple assaulted the 10-year-old because she
messed around with the private part of their three-year-old daughter,
Peace.
The victim who refuted the claim disclosed that she had played with
Peace at about 7pm on April 6. Peace while playing with the victim was
said to have cried out and on been questioned by her parents, the
toddler said her vagina was fiddled by Chidinma.
Out of fury for what Chidinma was accused of, Chukwuma was said to have asked Chidinma to come to his room.
Ofia,
mother of the victim was said to have heard a cry from her daughter few
minutes after the victim followed Chukwuma to his apartment.
On
hearing the loud cry by her daughter coming from Chukwuma’s apartment,
Ofia rushed to see what was happening. She discovered that the couple
had stabbed Chidinma on her vagina with a bottle.
The couple on seeing blood gushing out of the victim’s private part
fled the neighbourhood; they were later rounded up by officers attached
to the Okokomaiko Divisional Police station.
While giving her
confessional statement before the police, Chukwuma said she became angry
after the victim refuted the accusation made by Peace.
Subsequently, the couple were arraigned before a magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of assault.
According
to Olusoji Ojaokomo, the police prosecutor, the offence is punishable
under sections 171, 243 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of
Nigeria, 2011.
The charge reads, “That you, Eucheria Chukwuma, 30
and Jerry Oko-Oboh, 32 on April 6, 2015, at about 9pm on Joshua Street,
Agbabiaka, Oke-Agbo, Ajangbadi, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did
conspire to commit felony and unlawfully assaulted one 10-year-old
Chidinma, by beating her up with fist blows in her eye, which caused her
harm.
“That you, on the same date, time and place, in the
aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Chindima
by stabbing her with a broken bottle in her private parts.”
However
the couple after admitting to the crime in a confessional statement to
the police, later pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The couple
were granted bail by the presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, in
the sum of N100, 000 with a surety each in like sum. They were however
remanded in prison custody until their bail conditions are met. The case was however adjourned till May 13, 2015.
The couple should have beat her instead of stabbing her in her private part, then report the case to her parent. Also they should learn how to forgive one another.
