Uduaghan Commissions N4.1B Effurun Flyover

GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan yesterday commissioned the 447 metres dual carriage flyover on the Effurun Roundabout, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta state.

The commissioning of the project awarded in August 2013 at the cost of N4, 181 billion cleared widespread doubt whether it would see completion before close of the governor’s administration next month.

Uduaghn said of the project,”Uvwie is very dear to us. It is like the heartbeat of Delta state. It can’t be ignored because it is a place where most people see and just serves as a link to many parts of the country.

”If we are not doing anything here, it means we are not doing anything in Delta. So whatever is done here is necessary to be done here.”

The governor listed Ugbomro Road leading to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) as well as completion work on the electrification project in Jakpa to terminate at the expressway among new contracts that have just been awarded in Uvwie, adding that work will soon commence on them.

The state Commissioner for Works, Mr Funkekeme Solomon said the flyover project was intended to clear the daily difficult traffic gridlocks and attendant loss of man-hours at the Effurun Roundabout.

“The Effurun roundabout is the main link to the fast growing commercial hub of Warri/Effurun, the Delta Steel Company axis and the Warri port.

“It also serve as a link to Bayelsa, Rivers and the huge maritime activities spanning the Niger Delta coastline”, Funkekeme explained.

The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Mr Emmanuel Sideso (Abe I) and chairman, Uvwie Council, Henry Baro both commended the governor for the preference the locality has enjoyed in the distribution of developmental projects across the state.
