Suspected Texas shooter had been monitored by FBI since 2006

The FBI had spent nearly a decade investigating one of the men who attempted to attack an event featuring cartoons of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, it was revealed Monday as investigators attempted to determine whether the attack was directed by any overseas terror groups.
That suspect, identified by authorities as Elton Simpson, was killed by police officers in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Texas Sunday evening after shooting a school district security guard in the leg outside a center where a cartoon contest was being held. Simpson's fellow attacker and roommate, identified as Nadir Soofi, was also killed.

Operatives of Nigeria Prison Service on Monday morning watched helplessly as an inmate at the Benin Central Prison escaped from their custody and ran away.
The inmate who was taken for menial fatigue work at the prisons headquarters, upon noticing that the supervising prison warden was inattentive, suddenly took to his heels and ran away through Reservation Road, in GRA.

Court reserves judgment on Fani-Kayode’s money-laundering case for June 18

A Federal High Court in Lagos has reserved judgment in the trial of a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who is charged with money laundering, for June 18, 2015.
The judgment date was fixed by Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia on Monday following the adoption of final written addresses and summary arguments by lawyers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the accused person.

Orekoyas reveal kidnappers were paid N2.5m ransom

Mrs Adebisi Orekoya, mother of the recently kidnapped children from Lagos state, over the weekend said the family paid a ransom of N2.5 million to the kidnappers to effect the release of the abducted kids.
She said this while recounting her ordeal prior to a group of working mothers in Lagos at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, Conference and Exhibition Centre, in Alausa.
The event was meant to sensitise and create awareness on child kidnapping in the country. The event was organised by Background Check International, BCI, with the theme ‘Averting the rising spate of child kidnapping in Nigeria’.

Niger Delta Minister denies donating N2bn to Jonathan’s campaign

The Minister of -Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Stephen Oru, Monday, denied donating N2bn of the ministry’s funds to the presidential campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The minister made the denial on a live Radio Programme monitored in Abuja, on the heels of accusations by a group of Niger Delta youths sponsored to Isreal by the Niger Delta Affairs ministry for training in agriculture.

Documentary evidence has reportedly been released by President Goodluck Jonathan’s allies, revealing that members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, actually stole funds belonging to the party’s treasury shortly after the President was defeated in the March 28 presidential election.
Two close associates of the president told Sahara Reporters about what one of them described as, “shameless stealing of party funds by officials entrusted with running the affairs of the party.” They added that President Jonathan felt betrayed by the “greedy actions” of the NWC members.

Defection: Ondo indigenes want court to declare 22 lawmakers’ seats vacant

Some Ondo State indigenes have approached a Federal High Court sitting in Akure, asking it to declare the seats of the legislators elected under the platform of the Labour Party vacant, having defected to Peoples Democratic Party.
The plaintiffs, Ayo Agbomuserin and Taofiq Abdusalam, in an originating summon had sued the twenty House of Assembly members that defected from Labour Party to PDP in October 8th, 2014, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Inspector General of Police, Director General, Department of State Security Service and the. Boko Haram’s fuel and food supplier nabbed; 260 women, children rescued in Adamawa

A man who specialises in supplying fuel and food to terrorists was this morning nabbed in Daban Shata in the suburbs of Baga Borno State . The military intelligence had been trailing him till he was eventually trapped in the early hours of Sunday. He is presently undergoing interrogation.
In another development, troops on patrol yesterday located 260 women and children in the outskirts of Chalawa village in Adamawa state where they had been held up while trying to escape from terrorists.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has received fresh knocks over the alleged attack on the party’s governorship candidate in the April 11 election, Barr. Okey Ezea, by the party’s national vice chairman in the South East, Emma Eneukwu.
Ezea had over the weekend alleged that Eneukwu slapped him as a result of disagreements arising from ministerial slot in the incoming Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The guber candidate had in a text message to some journalists on Friday alleged that he was attacked by the national vice chairman.

Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Monday morning commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Sullivan Chime of the State.
Fourteen lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo sat early this morning where they read a notice of impeachment against Chime.
However, eight other lawmakers have voided the process and also allegedly impeached the Speaker, Hon. Odo. He was replaced by Hon. Chinedu Nwamba representing Nsukka East constituency.

Videos show how troops dislodged Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest [WATCH]

Operational videos about how Nigerians troops are battling and dislodging terrorists inside the notorious Sambisa Forest have shown the dexterity of Nigerian Air Force pilots as masters of their trade.
In some exclusive videos obtained by PRNigeria, pilots are seen taunting the terrorists with hundreds of the latter running helter skelter and fleeing into different directions. The videos show the dislodged and disorganized terrorists in flight on different directions and running helter-skelter in the expansive forest.
In another footage, the video depict how vulnerable women and children were cautiously and deliberately guided to safety by the Nigerian pilots.

Rio Ferdinand's wife Rebecca Ellison dies from cancer

The wife of former Manchester United and England captain Rio Ferdinand has died from cancer.
The QPR defender, 36, released a statement saying his "wonderful wife and soul mate" Rebecca Ellison had "passed away peacefully" at a London hospital.
Ms Ellison, 34, who married Ferdinand in 2009, had breast cancer.
She leaves behind three children, Lorenz, nine, Tate, six, and four-year-old Tia.
In a statement, Ferdinand said she died on Friday night.

Russian ballet icon Maya Plisetskaya dies aged 89

Maya Plisetskaya, considered one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century, died in Germany on Saturday at the age of 89, the director of the Bolshoi, Vladimir Urin, announced.

Plisetskaya danced for half a century and her modern choreography and performances charged with eroticism flouted Soviet convention.
"She died of a severe heart attack. The doctors tried everything, but there was nothing they could do," Urin said, quoted by the TASS news agency, after being informed by the ballerina's husband, Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin.
