Collapsed bridge: Firm will pay compensation to victims’ families — Kwankwaso


Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State has vowed to ensure that the local construction firm handling the pedestrian bridge, which collapsed along Sheik Jafar road paid adequate compensation to families of the seven victims of Sunday evening incident at Dorayi suburb in the metropolis.

Gunmen kidnap ex-UNAD Registrar, Modupe Fapohunda

A former registrar of the University of Ado Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, Modupe F. Fapohunda, has been kidnapped.
She was taken by a gang on Sunday night in Ondo State.

President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, has barred the African Independent Television (AIT), from covering his activities until they sort out their ethics and standards.

A source tells People that the arrest spurred Richards, 50, to enter treatment. "Kim went to rehab finally because she got arrested, she humiliated her kids and she wants to avoid jail," the source says. "If the arrest hadn't happened, she wouldn't be going to rehab; it would be business as usual. She's in denial that she has a problem."
Richards was arrested on April 16 at the Beverly Hills hotel and charged with public intoxication, trespassing, resisting an officer and battery on a police officer.

Rapper Lil Wayne's tour bus was hit by gunfire early Sunday after he performed at an Atlanta nightclub.
Atlanta police told WAGA that officers were called to the northeastern part of the city shortly after 3 a.m., where they found 2 tour buses that had been shot multiple times. No injuries were reported.
Police said the bus drivers explained that the shooting happened on I-285 and I-75 in Cobb County. The 32-year-old Lil Wayne was one of several people on the buses at the time of the shooting. The rapper had just performed at the Compound Club in the northwest of the city.
Police say witnesses could only provide a limited description of the suspect vehicles. They were described as two white vehicles, possibly a Corvette style vehicle and an SUV.

19 killed in Nasarawa as Fulani, villagers renew hostilities

Teenager sitting for WASSCE dies as generator goes up in flames

One Mubarak Gidado, 16, who is siting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, in Bauchi State, has been burnt to death while starting a generator.
It was gathered that Gidado was burnt to death while trying to start a generator which went up in flames.
The deceased was said to have given up the ghost at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in the State.

1 rescued, 4 missing after sailboats capsize in Alabama bay

The Coast Guard announced late Saturday they rescued one person from an Alabama bay after a powerful storm capsized several sailboats participating in a regatta, as crews searched for at least four more missing people.
More than 100 sailboats and as many as 200 people were participating in the area in the Dauphin Island Regatta in Mobile Bay when violent winds rolled through the area. Russian hackers obtained Obama's unclassified emails, report says

Russian hackers reportedly obtained some of President Obama’s emails when the White House’s unclassified computer system was hacked last year, indicating that the breach was significantly more intrusive than originally thought.

Imo Decides: Gov. Okorocha Declared Winner In Re-run Poll

In the Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Imo state, incumbent governor Rochas Okorocha, has emerged winner in the state.
Okorocha, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won in 20 out of the 23 Local Government areas in the state where the supplementary election was held, polling a total of 31,326 votes.
His closest challenger, Emeka Ihedioha, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 13,624 votes.
The outcome of Saturday’s election effectively truncated Ihedioha’s hope of overtaking the governor and winning the election. The PDP candidate trailed Okorocha by 79,525 votes in the substantive election a forthnight ago.
