when
Boko Haram insurgents invaded Buratai village of Biu local area of Borno
state on Saturday . A resident of the area who fled to Biu, Garba
Buratai said the insurgents came at about 4:00 am Saturday morning and
unleashed their terror.
He said the insurgents killed 25 people,
injured 5 before setting ablaze some houses and fled, adding that the
insurgents had earlier warned residents against participating in
elections.
Confirming the incident, Governor Kashim Shettima said
he received a report that 25 people were killed, while 5 others were
injured in the Boko Haram attack.
Shettima also said “I
personally witnessed massive turnout of voters, this actually showed the
passion of our people in partaking in the election in order to bring
about the desired change”
He urged the people to conduct themselves peacefully and
avoid violence, as according him Borno has had its fair
share of violence perpetrated by the Boko Haram terrorists.
Shettima
said “whoever wins should be magnanimous enough to accommodate losers,
while losers should have the courage to accept defeat, as Nigeria is
bigger than any individual. Elections come and elections go but Nigeria
would remain indivisible entity.”
He apologized to the people who
trekked 10 to 30 kilometers to cast their votes and called on them to
replicate what happen on Saturday elections by coming out en-mass on
April 11 for the governorship election.
